The United Nations Agenda 2030 along with the more recent strategic documents of the European Commission highlight the need for a strong commitment of all stakeholders in our society to achieve sustainable development worldwide by 2030. In this context, food is not only a common issue at the global level, but also a link between all 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), due to the interconnected economic, social and environmental dimensions of food systems. Academia plays a key role in boosting societal changes towards sustainable agri-food production chains, by promoting new educational paths and innovative training methodologies, thus supporting the training of the next generation of food professionals, entrepreneurs and, more generally, the workforce.
In this online event, jointly organised by the Erasmus+ projects ASKFOOD (https://www.askfood.eu/) and SDGs Labs (https://sdgs-labs.eu/), experts from the agri-food sector and higher education will discuss the opportunities and challenges within food systems, while insights and experiences with innovative training methodologies from both projects will be presented. The panel of experts will tackle the issue of knowledge exchange between industry and academia, with the aim of stimulating a change towards more sustainable models.
